What to Expect with Therapy
Starting therapy for the first time? Here are some commonly asked questions.
How does talking to someone help?
Talk therapy (also called psychotherapy) refers to a variety of treatments that aim to help you identify and change troublesome emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. You therapist is trained to guide you through this process.
What are we going to talk about?
Therapy starts with a conversation. During your first appointment your therapist will sit and talk with you about the symptoms you are experiencing. They will identify a pathway towards managing your symptoms. Each treatment plan is unique for each person.
What about medication?
Not everyone who starts therapy will be given prescription medication. Many people benefit from having the combination of medication and talk therapy. If medication could be of benefit for you your therapist will discuss your options during one of your sessions.

Is it just talking?
